Palterton is a small village in north east Derbyshire that has seen many changes over its thousand years of occupation.

The present village is situated on a limestone escarpment on higher ground overlooking the valley where the pre medieval occupation took place.

There is a dramatic view over the agricultural landscape.

Richards: My first positive reference of my Richards ancestors is c1730 in the parish of Ilkeston. Various spellings of my Richards family name are Rychards & Rykards [c.1600's].

Tracing my family connections has led me to Awsworth, Brinsley, Radford, Strelley, [Notts.], Norton Canes [Staffs.], Nuneaton [Warwickshire], Ilkeston and Palterton [Derbys.]
